The Ferrari F40 is a sports car produced by the Italian automaker Ferrari, successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione, produced between 1987 and 1992 (for the final models the “F40 GTE”), whose successor was the F50.

The bodywork design was created by the Pininfarina studio by Aldo Brovarone, Leonardo Fioravanti, and Pietro Camardella under the direction of Nicola Materazzi, to whom the project was entrusted, designing the engine, gearbox and other mechanical parts of the car. Materazzi had previously designed the bodywork of the 288 GTO Evoluzione, from which the F40 borrows numerous stylistic traits.
