French Napoleon III style black marble mantel clock from the late 19th century, with brass construction, a mechanical eight-day wind-up movement, a mercury-compensated pendulum, a front glass panel, a winding key, demi-heure striking with a single gong, origin France, height 47 cm, width 38 cm, depth 14 cm, weight 19 kg, in fairly good used condition with minor signs of wear; not guaranteed to be in working order.
Description from the seller
Beautiful French black marble mantel clock in Napoléon III style, dating from the late 19th century.
Monumental-architecture model with pilasters and lateral volutes, typical of Parisian production of that era. Clock equipped with a mercury-compensated pendulum. It is in black marble (or similar stone), it has a spring-driven mechanical movement wound with a key. It has a mercury-compensated pendulum (with its tubes), it has a glass-front opening to see the pendulum swing.
I possess the key and the mercury pendulum, but not wanting to risk damaging anything I have not attempted to fix the pendulum: the operation is therefore not guaranteed.
The striking mechanism has not been tested (probable presence of an hours/half-hours chime, typical of this type of clock, but not verified).
Signs of wear and marks of age on the marble (stains visible in the photos), it also lacks a small rear hook to lock the small access hatch to the pendulum.
