Cassolette - Patinated bronze

The selected antique vase is a decorative amphora or cassolette, probably of French origin from around 1900.

This specific piece is characterized by:

• Material: A dark patinated metal or marble pot with rich mounts in gilt bronze (also known as ormolu).

• Design: The vase features a twisted (spiraled) relief on the body and is equipped with lush, openworked handles in Louis XV- or Empire-style.

• Details: It rests on a richly decorated bronze foot with acanthus leaves and has an openworked bronze rim at the top.

Such vases were often used as a set (pendant) on a mantel or sideboard, sometimes also serving as a base for a lamp. A similar piece is known bearing the initials 'LV' and dated around 1800.
