Description from the seller
Dutch Art Deco Amsterdam School Pedestal in Oak, circa 1920s
An elegant Dutch Art Deco pedestal in oak, executed in the spirit of the Amsterdam School. Slender and architectural in form, the piece is built with three gently tapering legs supporting a circular top and lower tier. The silhouette is light and refined, while the subtle carved detailing at the upper part of the legs and the blackened feet give it just enough ornament.
Raised on small ball feet, the pedestal has a graceful, slightly animated character that works beautifully in an interior. It is especially suited as a plant stand, but would also serve well as a small occasional pedestal for a sculpture, vase, or other decorative object.
The oak has been cleaned and nourished, bringing back warmth and depth to the wood while preserving its age and character. There is some bending to the wood and the top shows a slight warp, as can be expected with age. Despite this, the piece remains well balanced and stands quite stable, and it is still very usable in practice, capable of carrying a good amount of weight.
The diameter of the top is 31 cm, at the base it is 37 x 37 cm
Condition
Cleaned and nourished oak. Some age-related bending to the wood and a slight warp (and age related shrinkage) to the top. Despite this, the pedestal remains well balanced, stable, and suitable for practical use.
Note that it is quite a fragile piece by it's slender design. It will be sent in a triple carton strong box and wrapped very safely. Pick up is possible as well
