Description from the seller
Rare and notable collection of ten original plaques from Portuguese insurance companies, enamel on metal, dating from the 1930s to the 1960s. Pieces of this type were fixed to cars of the period to identify the insurance company, today objects of collection with great historical and visual interest.
The collection is composed of the following pieces:
Mutualidade — Companhia de Seguro, rectangular plate in blue and gold enamel
Tranquilidade — founded in 1871, triangular shape in burgundy enamel with a Portuguese shield
Comércio e Indústria Seguros 1907 — two variants (winged plate and circular plate with a crown)
Confiança Seguros — shield-shaped in white and blue enamel
A Seguradora Industrial — circular, blue enamel, Lisbon
A Nacional — Companhia de Seguros, founded in 1906, circular blue enamel
Aliança Madeirense Seguros — shield with a coat of arms, a rare piece of insular provenance
Império Seguros — shield with the Portuguese quinas, enamel in gold and burgundy
Nauticus Seguros — Lourenço Marques — a piece of overseas provenance (Mozambique), shield-shaped in dark enamel with a caravel
State of conservation: Very good to excellent for the age of the pieces. They show the natural wear and patina expected in objects used in the period, which adds authenticity.
Presentation: The collection is framed in a black frame with a white passe-partout, ready to display, constituting in itself a decorative piece of great visual impact.
Frame dimensions: approximately 50 × 60 cm (to be confirmed)
Collector interest: Pieces of this nature are increasingly rare on the market, particularly those of overseas provenance (Nauticus — Lourenço Marques) and insular provenance (Aliança Madeirense). The fact that this is a coherent, well-preserved set, gathered and framed, adds significant value compared with selling them individually.
Ideal for: Vintage automobile collectors, the history of insurance in Portugal, industrial/retro decor, or collectors of enamels and advertising plaques.
