Description from the seller

From my personal collection:
Art Deco World Globe with integrated compass Columbusverlag Paul Oestergaard KG of Berlin-Lichterfelde, circa 1935.

There is a moment, in front of this globe, when the world stops rushing... and begins to tell its story.

The light caresses the surface, still bright, sliding slowly between oceans and continents, lighting colors still incredibly vivid. As you approach, the gaze is caught by a densely woven map of trade routes, boundaries, distant names: an almost hypnotic interweaving that pulses with history. It is like listening to an ancient whisper, the noise of ships, the invisible trace of explorations, the breath of an era in full motion.

Touching it, one immediately perceives the quality: the warm solidity of solid walnut wood, the precision of the metal elements, the discreet yet fascinating presence of the compass. The sphere invites you to turn it slowly, with a natural, almost instinctive gesture... and in that silent movement it seems to come to life, evoking travels, distances, ambitions. Very steady and with no resistance to light rotation.

This is an authentic Columbus tabletop globe – Model 200, produced by Columbusverlag Paul Oestergaard KG of Berlin-Lichterfelde between 1930 and 1940. A piece that is not only decorative, but deeply narrative:

it reflects a precise historical moment, that of Germany in the period of its expansion, even politically, of a particular moment of the visible world within its borders, in the denominations and in the geopolitical vision impressed on the sphere.

The conditions are extraordinary for a globe of almost 100 years old; the cartography is luminous, legible, incredibly sharp. It is rare to come across an example that preserves with such visual and emotional strength its original integrity. Here every detail is still alive, every line still tells a story. The only parts of the map that show the passage of time are located at the South Pole (as in the photo) but the wear is so limited and hidden that I strongly advise against any partial restoration... it is the only sign of time and it looks fine as is!

Because it is not simply an object to observe: it is an object to feel. To follow with the eyes, to accompany with a gesture, to let it speak.

A piece that enriches a space, but above all captures anyone who approaches it.

Main features:

* Producer: Columbus Erdglobus – Paul Oestergaard KG
* Model: 200
* Period: 1930–1940
* Origin: Berlin, Germany
* Height: 54 cm
* Width: 33 cm
* Materials: wood (solid walnut), metal
* Integrated compass
* Condition: excellent for the era

A globe that does not just show the world... it makes it live again.

The globe can also be collected in Italy between Bergamo and Milan, and if shipped it will be partially disassembled and separated from the stand for a super-secure shipment with a traceable courier; I will provide simple operational tips and tricks to restart it without problems and without dings: the metal threaded into the wood always needs a little extra care.
I do not ship to the United States.
