Description from the seller
Napoleon III period glove box in Rosewood and Mother-of-Pearl
Elegant rectangular glove box in rosewood (or grenadilla) veneer, opening by a hinged lid. Refined workmanship from the Napoleon III era (mid-19th century).
Decoration and Inlay:
• The lid features a rich marquetry decoration of white mother-of-pearl flowers and leafy scrolls.
• In the center, a cartouche of dynamic shape (no monogram).
• Double border of fine lines outlining the box’s edges, present on the lid and the front but with some missing parts.
• Brass keyhole escutcheon.
Condition and Details:
• The piece is shown in its original varnish with a beautiful patina.
• Strong point: Comes with its functional key.
• Natural wood interior.
• Condition note: Good overall condition. Some minor veneer lifts and small losses of the fillets along the edges (normal wear for the period), not affecting the overall aesthetics. Defects photographed.
