Description from the seller
I put a second identical chair up for sale at the same time (impossible to ship them together due to weight and carriers: if a buyer wins both auctions, they will be sent at the same time by the same carrier)
Louis XIII chair, in good condition.
Height: 110 cm
Width: 41 cm
Depth: 60 cm
Seat height: 50 cm (approximately)
20 kilos each.
Padded with relief flowers, copper rivets.
Original condition aside from a small metal plate on the back right of the backrest (photos 7 & 8)
slight corrosion, some wear due to age and use,
- Frame and joints: The seat frame is solid wood with pegged mortise-and-tenon joints (visible at the foot and crosspieces). No screws, nails or modern metal staples, artisanal 17th-century construction. Wooden pegs are irregular and patinated,
- Inner upholstery: You can see a jute cloth or an old webbing beneath the tapestry, with what appears to be natural veg or animal hair padding (typical of the 17th century, no synthetic foam).
authentic 17th-century Louis XIII chair
(from around 1620-1650, France).
- Straight chair (side chair) typical of bourgeois or noble dining room sets or reception rooms, with Flemish influences (torsions and beads in a rosary pattern).
- Louis XIII – turned legs with torsions and beads, H-stretcher, tall rectangular back, carved floral motifs (roses on the feet).
- Materials: Solid walnut (visible grain and dark patina confirmed), floral tapestry (jacquard or petit point), copper or brass nails.
- Overall condition: Good for its age – just normal wear (insect holes inactive, patina).
Pickup in person or shipping by parcel.
