I am selling this splendid late-19th-century mantel clock from my private collection.
WARNING: The clock needs servicing since it has been stopped for a while.
DESCRIPTION
Neoclassical black marble clock with Japy Frères mechanism, decorated with engravings featuring vegetal vines, circa 1880.
It presents a classical architectural structure, reminiscent of a temple or monument, common for mantel clocks of that period.
This specific model features characteristics typical of the Victorian or Napoleon III style.
The case appears to be made of black marble (often Belgian black marble) or slate, with decorative inlays in marble of different colors or hard stone.
The dial is surrounded by a gilded bezel, often with Roman or Arabic numerals, typical of pendulum mechanical movements of the era.
