Description from the seller

An imposing and exceptionally graceful antique brass coach lantern, crowned with a detailed cast eagle figure with spread wings — a typical ornamental motif from the late 19th century that gives the lantern a stately and dignified character.

The lantern consists of a hexagonal glass lantern body with original stained glass panels, two perforated decorative rim discs with curved ornamental work serving as a ventilation chimney, the imposing eagle finial on top, and an iron mounting bracket at the bottom for mounting on a coach or wall. The side hinged door provides access to the candle or oil holder inside, with an original brass reflector dish.

This type of lantern was used as a coach lantern on the carriages of well-to-do citizens or noble families — the eagle crown points to a representational and prestigious origin. The whole is complete and originally preserved with a beautiful warm patina.

Condition: good vintage condition with authentic signs of use and patina appropriate to the great age. Complete with all original parts.
