Description from the seller

Stunning liquor cabinet housed within a series of old books.

Faceted glass, repoussé leather.

Good condition considering its age and use
Dimensions closed: 20/14/13

Exceptional secret box camouflaged in a stack of books with bottles and glasses, France.

It takes the ingenious form of a stack of antique books, carefully bound in gilded leather with faux books.
It is a piece rich in symbolism, intended for discretion, optical tricks, refinement and the ingenuity of the era.

Opening the upper false back reveals a secret compartment containing two liquor bottles carved with their original stoppers and four small glasses finely rimmed in gold.

Interior layout inscribed in the tradition of “liquor cellars”.

Sought after in aristocratic salons and 19th-century circles.

The whole is as unusual as it is charming! A rare object!
