Alice by Sawatari Hajime, a Japanese-language hardback art and photography book of 100 pages, reprint from 1991, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
In this book Hajime Sawatari brilliantly interprets the literary classic by Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) Alice in Wonderland. Here Sawatari engages with and brilliantly recreates the themes, forms, and symbolisms within the original narrative, focusing on the inevitable loss of childhood innocence, of a girl confronted by the realities of adulthood. Sawatari's "Wonderland" is a world where the absurd is juxtaposed with reality, where phenomena of the real intertwine with the unconscious, leading each viewer through a narrative that confronts spectators with the surreal, flipping the roles between child and adult within this series of unpublished photographs. The model is Samantha, a 10-year-old girl who was hired for this role of Alice, selected in an audition held in England, Alicia's homeland and the place where these photographs were taken. A classic of Japanese photography. The book is in very good condition, with its original belt, a small catalog of the publisher's books, and an extra plastic sleeve that protects the cover. It is a masterpiece, a very rare and hard-to-find book.
