This rare set of four antique bronze stamps represents the mythological Protectors of the Four Directions (四神 - Sì Shén) from Chinese cosmology.
Each stamp is crowned with one of the four celestial animals that guard the cardinal directions:
East: The Azure Dragon (青龍 - Qīng Lóng) - depicted on the right, symbolizing spring and wood
West: The White Tiger (白虎 - Bái Hǔ) - visible on the left, represents autumn and metal
North: The Black Tortoise with Snake (玄武 - Xuán Wǔ) - possibly the second figure, represents winter and water
South: The Red Phoenix or Bird (朱雀 - Zhū Què) - the third animal, symbolizes summer and fire
