Antique bronze mortar with its original pestle, dating to the 17th century, a solid bronze piece with a patinated finish and a deep cup profile, weighing 1745 g and measuring 8 cm wide, 7.5 cm high and 7 cm deep, originating from Spain.
Description from the seller
Ancient mortar of prominent presence, cast in solid bronze, accompanied by its original pestle/pilon made to match. A piece of traditional manufacture, probably destined for pharmaceutical use, apothecary, or a noble kitchen, fashioned with thick walls and substantial weight to facilitate manual grinding of spices, herbs, and preparations.
The set stands out for its excellent solidity and the attractive natural dark patina acquired over the years, preserved without aggressive polishing to maintain its authentic character and decorative value. The interior shows wear consistent with actual old use, adding personality and authenticity to the piece.
The mortar presents a classic deep cup profile with a widened rim, while the pestle preserves an ergonomic turned shape of great balance. The quality of the casting and the metal thickness reveal robust, durable craftsmanship typical of functional antique pieces.
Condition:
Good overall state of conservation for its age. Shows normal signs of use, small marks, surface wear, and irregular patina typical of time. No cracks or visible repairs.
