Antique ecclesiastical seal from the 19th century, made of solid brass mounted on a turned wooden handle, with the imprint of a mitred bishop holding a crozier, 12 cm high with a 3.5 cm matrix diameter.
Description from the seller
Ancient ecclesiastical seal – 19th century
Ancient seal in solid brass, mounted on a turned wooden handle, bearing the imprint of a mitred bishop holding his crozier. The peripheral legend reads: “S. AIGNAN DE MOULINS-LES-NOYERS · Près Dᵢocᵉˢᵉ DE SENS”
This is clearly a parish or confraternal seal, probably made in the 19th century judging by the engraving style (naive but sharp line, classic text layout, regular capital letters) and the design of the handle.
The brass shows an authentic, old patina, with no over-polishing.
The wooden handle bears a few purple ink stains, typical of use in an old presbytery or sacristy.
Dimensions: Total height: 12 cm - Diameter of the matrix: 3.5 cm
Provenance: Private collection.
The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. They allow the condition and characteristics to be appreciated. Please examine them carefully before any bidding.
The item will be carefully wrapped and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
