Specimen: Cachet Immaculée Conception; Scientific name: Immaculée Conception de Marie; a bronze and turned‑wood parish seal from 19th‑century France, 11 cm high.
Description from the seller
Religious cachet – Immaculate Conception of Mary – Bronze & wood – 19th century
Ancient seal composed of a turned wooden handle (dark brown patina), mounted on a finely ribbed bronze shaft. The oval matrix, also in bronze, features a beautiful relief engraving.
The iconography depicts: The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, standing, hands open, radiating halo, deep and turbulent drapery. The relief is characteristic of parish seals from the 19th century.
The peripheral legend, legible thanks to a mirror image, reads: “À L’IMMACULÉE CONCEPTION DE MARIE”
(older spelling from the late 19th century, with “Immaculée” sometimes abbreviated).
The presence of a small symbol at the bottom (cross/punch) matches the French religious engraving workshops of the 19th century.
Dimensions: height 11 cm; oval matrix 3.5 × 2.5 cm
Dating
The whole object (Marian style, engraving, typography, wooden handle + bronze fluting) places the piece around 1870–1900, a period of widespread diffusion of parish seals dedicated to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception proclaimed in 1854.
Condition: Old, uniform patina; Virgin relief still sharp; Legends legible.
Interest
Genuine seal, a typical parish object, of a Marian confraternity or a devotional office, used to seal correspondence, blessing certificates, or internal documents.
Provenance: Private collection.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any purchase.
The object will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
