Jean Geiser (1848-1923) is one of the most important photographers of colonial Algeria at the end of the 19th century. Of Swiss origin, he settled in Algiers around 1873 and founded a photographic studio there that would quickly become one of the most renowned in North Africa. His work sits within the tradition of Orientalist photography. He produced thousands of images intended for travelers, settlers, and European collectors: views of towns, landscapes, street scenes, portraits of inhabitants, and studio compositions featuring dancers, musicians, or people in “exotic” costume.
Will be shipped with its case and neutral pH cardboard backing (ideal for a collection in good condition).
