Description from the seller
This instrument is a high-precision dashboard clock, manufactured by Jaeger (Paris/Geneva) in Switzerland, intended for luxury and sports cars of the interwar period (1920s-1930s). It is an iconic model, found on the dashboard of legendary cars such as the Bugatti Type 35 or Lancia.
8-Day Power Reserve Mechanism: The inscription "8 Jours" confirms a robust mechanism, designed to operate for a whole week with a single complete turn.
Two-Button Configuration (Push-to-Set System):
Return Button (Present): Used to wind the mainspring.
Adjustment Button (Missing): This is the missing element. According to your observation, the system is a "push and turn" type. The internal stem is functional (can be pressed), which means that the tongue engagement mechanism (the rocker) is intact, only requiring the fabrication or finding of a compatible external crown.
Dial (Damaged): The silvered dial shows clear signs of wear, deep scratches and peeling of the protective layer. Although the Roman numerals and the central "Jaeger Paris" logo are still legible, the general aesthetics indicate prolonged exposure to humidity or unprofessional mechanical interventions on the tongues.
Origin: Marked "Fabrique en Suisse", guaranteeing Swiss watchmaking quality under the French brand Jaeger.
Conclusion for Restoration/Sale
Although the piece is incomplete (missing adjustment button) and aesthetically damaged (the dial), it retains an important historical value due to the rarity of the two-button mechanism. For a car collector, the value lies in the authenticity of the piece, even with the "patina" of time. Please view the images carefully before bidding. Thank you!
