Description from the seller

Circa 1880, 23x29 cm.
"Arabian grocery", a very beautiful view of the interior of an Egyptian souk at the end of the nineteenth century, by the Zangaki brothers.
Very fine large-format albumen print from the period in very good condition, mounted on a cardboard backing.
Excellent preservation of contrasts, grayscale tones and levels of detail.
Labeled and signed in the negative.

The Zangaki brothers (Georges and Constantin Zangaki) were Greek-born photographers active in Egypt in the late nineteenth century, mainly between the 1870s and 1890s. They worked primarily in the regions of the Suez Canal, the Nile, and the major archaeological sites frequented by European travelers. Their body of work reflects the development of tourism in Egypt after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and neutral-pH cardboard backing (ideal for a collection in good condition).
