A vintage helmet-form teapot in sterling silver, dating to circa 1750–1800, made in London with a vermeil interior, measuring 11 cm high, 11.5 cm wide and 6.5 cm deep and weighing 94 g, with clear London hallmarks and in very good condition.
Description from the seller
The little creamer shows the classic helmet shape (Helmet Shape), which was particularly popular in the late Georgian era. The entire exterior is adorned with elaborate repoussé work: floral motifs, flowing Rocaille cartouches, and garlands testify to masterful craftsmanship.
An empty cartouche on the front originally offered space for a monogram or family crest — it was never engraved and is therefore untouched.
The raised band handle with fine ribbed texture sits comfortably in the hand. Special highlight: The inside is fully gilded (vermeil) — a typical quality hallmark of elevated pieces that protected the silver from acids in milk and cream.
Punches
On the base are the typical London hallmarks:
• Lion passant (Sterling silver 925/1000)
• Leopard head (city mark London)
• Date letter
• Maker’s mark
All punches are clearly legible and attest to authenticity and origin
Very well preserved for a piece over 220 years old:
• No cracks, holes, or repairs
• Handle firm and stable
• Interior gilding largely intact with expected patina of age
• Light signs of wear on the bottom (in keeping with its age)
• Hallmarks complete and clearly legible
