Liturgical pisside in vermeil silver of Neapolitan origin, dating to circa 1800–1850, with a hinged lid, dimensions 21×9×9 cm and a weight of 431 g.
Description from the seller
Pisside (host paten)
Scope: Sacred art – Neapolitan goldsmithing
Period: Late 18th century (post 1781)
Provenance: Italian Private Collection
Dimensions: 21 x 9 x 9 cm
Weight: 431 g
Material: Gilt silver (vermeil)
Technique: Casting, chasing, engraving, burin work and gilding
Marks: Mark “SP star"
Important gilt-silver pisside, attributable to the refined Neapolitan goldsmithing production of the late 18th century, characterized by high-quality workmanship and an articulated iconographic program.
The cup, with harmonious and balanced lines, is completed by a hinged lid with a molded upper grip. The surface, finely worked, preserves a warm and uniform gilding that enhances the purity of the forms.
A particularly noteworthy element is the figurative base, conceived as a true three-dimensional sculptural group, in which a symbolic narrative of strong theological content develops.
The three figures present at the base are clearly attributable to a well-defined Christian symbolic program:
* Dove
Representation of the Holy Spirit, according to traditional iconography. The presence of the dove introduces a direct reference to the divine dimension and to consecration.
• Christ Blessing with Cross in hand.
• Kneeling figure
Related to the Adoration or to the devotion of the believing soul. The praying and pious bearing expresses submission and participation in the Eucharistic mystery.
A proper packaging is guaranteed; shipping will be carried out express and insured with UPS 24/48H.
