The drawing of the bodywork was created by the Pininfarina studio by Aldo Brovarone, Leonardo Fioravanti and Pietro Camardella under the guidance of Nicola Materazzi, to whom the project was entrusted, creating the engine, gearbox and other mechanical parts of the car. Materazzi also had previously designed the bodywork of the 288 GTO Evoluzione, from which the F40 borrows many stylistic features.
