Medieval stone capital dating to the 13th–14th century, in antique style, 40 cm square with a total height of about 1.10 m, originating from Italy.
Description from the seller
Medieval capital originating from the vicinity of Florence. Chiseled from local natural stone of the area. Probably, in earlier times, happily recovered during the demolition of a church or sanctuary.
On the right side one clearly sees an apostle or saint whose hands are folded under his garments, and beneath the head. On the left a figure that is more eroded, placed in the same mood.
In the middle between these two figures one can recognize a coat of arms, which in itself is interesting for tracing its origin. Also on the right side is a Tree of Life depicted, which is another interesting detail.
In later times, unfortunately, someone made a flowerpot with an opening at the top.
Overall, it is an intriguing piece of Italian architectural and sculptural history.
Total height as now proposed: 1.10 m.
The capital is now mounted on an old valuable French limestone column dating from the 19th century or earlier, with a diameter of 34 cm, and firmly secured by means of an old square iron bar, and is very safe. The iron is anchored in the column, and the capital can be lifted about 10 cm by two people and removed from the column.
No shipping outside Europe.
