Description from the seller
DR.AUG NAGEL 65 BLACK W/NAGEL ANASTIGMAT 10.5CM f/4.5 LENS
beautiful old camera, not known if it works, but certainly nice as a decorative piece
Nagel was a short-lived German camera brand, based in Stuttgart, that between 1928 and 1931 produced a range of high-quality cameras. The founder, Dr. August Nagel, started this company under his own name after he left his previous venture, Contessa-Nettel. This company had grown through the merger of several German camera manufacturers into Zeiss Ikon. After only four years as an independent and despite difficult times a successful market player, he sold his company to Eastman Kodak. The company, however, continued to exist under the new name Kodak AG - Dr. Nagel Werk and August Nagel was appointed managing director. It was a win-win situation for both parties: Kodak enjoyed the reputation of a range of highly innovative designs made in Germany, and August Nagel could focus on his main talent: designing and producing cameras, while Kodak provided him with the necessary financial backing for strong growth and a worldwide distribution network. In 1928 Nagel began a line of high-quality foldable cameras for sheet and roll film and became famous with his subminiature camera Pupille. After 1932 many cameras remained in the portfolio but bore the Kodak brand. In the mid-1930s Dr. Nagel developed a 35mm film cassette suitable for the successful Leica- and Contax-viewfinder cameras; Nagel also downsized his earlier Vollenda camera to use this smaller format, giving rise to Retina. Kodak in the US promoted this new film packaging as the 135 format, and it quickly became the 35mm standard that is universal today.
