Hackney Flowers by Stephen Gill, 1st edition signed on the title page, English hardback published by Nobody, Archive of Modern Conflict in 2007, 114 pages with 65 full-page photographs, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed on the title page by Stephen Gill (born 1971) in excellent condition; like new (signed copies are extremely rare, especially in this excellent state!). 114 pages and 65 full-page photographs hors texte printed on the recto only in the book itself and in a smaller format on recto-verso in the sheets inserted in the book; very beautiful toiled binding with a decorative motif.
To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, with the option to return to the standard display at any time.
This is a very beautiful “collector” book issued in a limited edition, today highly sought after, by one of the best English photographers of the new generation who emerged in the 2000s, whose previous book Hackney Wick, published in 2005, was listed in Photobook by Parr & Badger, Volume II, p. 324.
Hackney is a district located on the south bank of the Thames and is one of the poorest neighborhoods in London, where 35 to 40% of residents live below the poverty line. Despite this, Stephen Gill wished to present a joyful and colorful image that highlights its population.
He collected flowers, seeds, berries, and objects which he placed on his own photographs to re-photograph them, thus producing new ephemeral and very poetic visual creations.
A parallel series consisting of small leaflets or booklets inserted into the book’s binding highlights the neighborhood residents wearing floral motifs on their clothing.
"This is a warm, poetic, and visually engaging book containing images that leave an overwhelming sense of color, emotion, and rhythm drawn from a single London borough." (editor’s note)
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (like new), kept with the utmost care. Very effectively protected shipping and guaranteed international postal tracking. For multiple purchases, possible grouped shipping with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
