Description from the seller
They are a pair of five-light candelabras made in gilt bronze, crafted with that theatrical refinement so characteristic of Napoleon III's taste. Each piece is organized around a central cherub modeled in the round, seated on a rocaille base and holding a small flaming attribute that acts as a visual axis. The figure, with soft anatomy and serene expression, adds an intimate and almost playful touch to the ensemble, balancing the exuberant ornamental excess at the top.
From the rear of the cherub rises a sinuous shaft, enriched with leaves, scrolls and volutes that open into an arboreal arrangement of curved arms. These arms culminate in five candlesticks arranged in a corona, each with a finely chiseled cup and bobèche. The bronze preserves a warm gilding, with nuances that enhance the volumes and depth of the modeling.
The set conveys that mix of theatricality, luxury and fantasy so characteristic of the Second Empire: pieces designed to dress a salon, a sideboard or a console with light, shine and sculptural presence.
Certified shipping and careful packing.
