Russian Icon, Virgin and Child (Hodegetria Type), late 19th / early 20th century.

Tempera on wooden panel with gesso ground, depicting the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child and gesturing toward Him in the traditional Hodegetria iconography. Set against a gilded background with circular Christograms and Marian inscriptions. The work shows characteristics of Russian Orthodox workshop production, with warm red and ochre tones and stylized drapery.

Condition: heavily worn with extensive craquelure, paint losses, and surface abrasion throughout; aged varnish; panel structurally stable with signs of age.

Provenance: old auction label from Salle de Ventes Galerie Moderne.
