Augusto Černigoj – Exhibition Catalog (Trieste, 1977)
Comune di Trieste – Civico Museo Revoltella, Sala d’Arte di Palazzo Costanzi, April–May 1977
Original catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Augusto Černigoj, a leading figure of the Constructivist avant-garde in the Mitteleuropean area, held at the Civico Museo Revoltella in Trieste in 1977.
The publication documents in an organic way the figure and the work of the artist, reconstructing his path within the Triestine cultural context between the two wars and highlighting his training at the Bauhaus in 1923–1924, a decisive element for the development of an artistic language oriented toward a synthesis of form, space and function.
Great emphasis is given to the experience of the Triestine Constructivist Group (1927) and to its relationships with figures such as Giorgio Carmelich, Giuseppe Vlah and Edoardo Stepancich, as well as connections with the Slovenian cultural milieu and the Mitteleuropean environment. The volume also highlights Černigoj's theoretical contribution, based on a conception of art as objective and constructive expression, in opposition to naturalistic and individualistic currents.
Rich iconographic apparatus with reproductions of the works, which allows for a broad and coherent view of the artist's production and his stylistic evolution.
