Antique 21 cm porcelain plate from Italy, dating 1800–1850, hand-painted with a central miniature of the Scrivano Pubblico and a gilt edge in Restoration/Empire style.
Description from the seller
Amazing fine porcelain collection piece, entirely hand-decorated, dating to the mid-19th century. The work belongs to the famous iconographic production of the “Mestieri,” a theme dear to the great European manufacturers of the 1800s (such as Ginori a Doccia or the Neapolitan manufactories of the Grand Tour).
Subject and Decoration:
The center of the plate features a high-quality miniature depicting the “Public Scrivener.” The scene is rich in historical details: the artisan sits at his writing desk with inkwell and papers, while a placard reads the fascinating inscription: “Si scrive e si traduce il Francese,” testimony to the importance of the French language in Europe of that era.
The painting quality is excellent, with a rendering of faces and fabrics typical of porcelain painting in the first half of the 19th century.
The Border (Rim):
The rim is lavishly decorated with a sunken rich-gold band, characterized by geometric and floral motifs in Restoration/Empire style. The brilliance of the gold and the precision of the engraving suggest a high-level manufacture.
This type of plate was often part of exclusive services composed of twelve or more pieces, each depicting a different trade. It is a piece with a strong visual impact and undeniable historical value, perfect to complete Italian porcelain collections or to be displayed as a single antique item.
