Mantel clock - Brass - 1910-1920

An antique travel clock or desk clock from the late 19th to early 20th century, with an exposed balance wheel and finely chased decorative elements in Art Nouveau style. The presence of the exposed balance wheel was a luxury feature that demonstrated the clock's mechanical quality, appreciated by the upper middle class and collectors. The parchment- or scroll-design was an innovative way to present the clock, making it a decorative object as well as a functional one. The bullseye window allowed viewing the beating heart of the clock, a sign of technical mastery. I can't say whether it works because I'm not an expert.
