Märklin H0 model railway crossing with one track, pre-assembled and ready to connect to C rails, featuring two electro-magnetically operated gates and red warning lamps.
Description from the seller
Märklin 74924 - Level crossing with one track, with half-level crossing gates, pre-mounted. To connect directly to C-rails. 2 electromagnetically operated crossing gates with two red warning lights each, which illuminate when the gates are closed. Ready to connect, simple installation. Contact rail set:
3 right rails, each 94.2 mm long.
Dimensions of each pedestal: 137 x 95 mm.
Also available is an Expansion Set with a filler piece for between the rail sections, slideable to adjust the length and with three rails (item no. 74930).
Technology
The crossing gates include red lights. The half-gates are drawn by magnets as soon as they receive power. The operation of the level crossing is based on contact rails, which means one rail is insulated from ground. The yellow wire from the power transformer (current wire) is connected to the level crossing. As soon as a train traverses a contact rail, the axle hubs of the locomotive and wagons connect the ground rail to the insulated rail via their axles (ground detection). This allows ground contact and as long as a train or wagon sits between the contact rails, current continues to flow, which energizes the crossing magnets and keeps the lights on. The contact rails do not have to be directly connected to the main track, but can be spaced further apart. If so, all rails placed between must have their rails insulated from each other. How this should be done can be found here. The axles of the locomotives and wagons must be alternating-current axles; otherwise the ground from the rail would not be transmitted to the insulated rail.
