Description from the seller
Dutch Art Deco Adjustable Piano Stool in Solid Oak, ca. 1925
A handsome Dutch Art Deco piano stool in solid oak, dating from around the 1920s to 30s. Heavy, sturdy and well constructed, this is a practical piece with a strong decorative presence.
The stool has a round seat with a broad wooden rim, divided into quarters around the upholstered centre. The seat can be turned to adjust the height, moving from approximately 54 cm / 21.3 in at its lowest to around 65 cm / 25.6 in at its highest. This makes it functional as a piano stool, but also very suitable as a stool to place at a vanity or simply as an accent piece in an eclectic interior.
The base is particularly attractive: a central square column is supported by four shaped feet with curved profiles. The feet have a stepped outline, giving the stool a sculptural Art Deco/Amsetrdam School character.
The stool is made in heavy solid oak and is in sturdy, stable condition. The wood has a warm patina with signs of age and use. Around the circular seat rim there are very slight separations between the quartered wooden sections, visible but the seat is completely stable. The piece has been recently reupholstered in a subtle violet-grey shade.
A charming and usable Dutch Art Deco piece: practical enough for daily use, but with enough character to hold a corner all by itself.
Condition: good, sturdy and stable, with age-related wear
Seat: adjustable by turning
