Paleolithic protobiface flint tool from the Acheulean culture, dating to about 800,000 BP, measuring 137 × 85 mm, in excellent condition, originating from Seguiet el Hamra, Western Sahara, and acquired from a Belgian private collection.
Description from the seller
Nicely worked protobiface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of H. Erectus who lived there. These tools are regarded as transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully around-worked hand axes. Characteristic is the preservation of a large part of the cortex, and with a minimum of flakes removed still aiming for a pointed form. These protobifaces are not common in large assemblages. Made from chert/flint. Originating from Western Sahara, Seguiet el Hamra.
Little to no wear traces and in excellent condition. See photos.
