Description from the seller
Magnificent and elegant French oak 18th-century chest of drawers, known as the Parisienne. The oak top features a beveled edge and a moulding that extends to the sides, beautifully hand-wrapped. The front is divided into three registers or prominent sections, adorned with impressive large cast bronze hardware and gilded bronze escutcheons. The front culminates in a skirt with a slightly undulating profile. The chest rests on thick, straight legs that continue the ribbed side panels of the front, adding a touch of design and solidity to the piece. An original, high-quality period piece. Retains the original label.
More about the Louis XV Style
The Louis XV Style is an artistic movement, especially present in the decorative arts, that developed during the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774). Initially the term “Louis XV Style” referred to a characteristic type of chairs, but it quickly extended to all the arts of the period. This style was the creation of cabinetmakers as the result of a major technical advance in furniture making. It is identified with the architectural style known as Rococo. Like Rococo, it features abundant decoration and detail, in contrast with the later “Louis XVI Style,” which is simpler.
