Description from the seller
The lot contains the richly illustrated standard work on Constant Nieuwenhuys's graphic work:
Philippe van Dagen; Trudy van der Horst (biography) - Constant graphics - Netherlands, Waanders Uitgeverij / Paris, Edition Cercle d'Art, 2004 - 1st edition - Dutch language - 229 pages - cloth-bound with dust jacket - condition: fine, virtually no signs of wear.
A must for collectors, dealers and enthusiasts.
'T Constant Nieuwenhuys stood at the cradle of two post-war avant-garde movements: Cobra (1948) and the Internationale Situationniste (1958). In both cases he played an important role in both writing and design. His long-standing aim was to achieve a synthesis of the arts, with close collaboration among architects, sculptors, poets/writers and painters at the center. In his graphic oeuvre we see this reflected in the various albums, in which text and image are connected and show a development toward an urban-design form, where the playing human being is central. His visionary spirit in the sixties left its mark on contemporary architecture, and his New Babylon project has become world-famous. Constant’s work is characterized by a strong drive to experiment, whereby especially since the seventies his development toward colorism has taken a central role.' (blurb)
