Description from the seller
Rare Danish “Angelfish” Teak Figure Bar Tool Sculpture – presumably Laurids Lønborg – corkscrew & bottle opener – Denmark, 1950s-60s - Decorative art object or collectible.
An exceptional and playful example of Danish Mid-Century design, where sculptural form and functionality fuse masterfully. This rare object from the beloved “Danska Teakfigurer” tradition is executed as an elegantly stylized Angelfish (manta ray) in solid teak wood and hides two ingeniously integrated functions: a corkscrew and a bottle opener.
At first glance it looks like a refined Scandinavian animal sculpture, but it is precisely the concealed mechanical character that makes this piece so remarkable. The detachable tail functions as a bottle opener, while the foot houses a corkscrew — a beautiful example of the playful functionality for which Danish Modern is celebrated internationally.
The organic lines, the warm teak with its fine grain, and the balanced proportions give the object a nearly museal appearance. At the same time, it fits perfectly within the tradition of Danish executive barware and sculptural everyday objects from the 1960s.
This model is attributed to the spirit of Laurids Lønborg and stylistically belongs to the coveted category of zoomorphic Danish bar tools — objects that today appeal to both collectors of Scandinavian Design and enthusiasts of distinctive bar accessories.
An object that is simultaneously:
* a sculpture
* a design object
* a conversation piece
* and a functional bar instrument.
Through its combination of humor, craftsmanship and hidden functionality, this is a rare and sought-after collectible.
