Altwestasiatic gold pendant in the shape of a blossom leaf, comprising four hammered petals arranged vertically with a hanging loop at the top, measuring 0.8 cm by 0.3 cm by 0.3 cm and weighing 0.07 g, in good condition, dating to circa 1st millennium BC, acquired in 2025 from a Japanese private collection with prior owner in 1990, previously from the United Kingdom, authenticity Original.
Description from the seller
A delicate West Asian gold pendant model in the shape of a leaf. Thin gold sheets were hammered to form four petals, vertically arranged with gaps between them. Each petal is rounded at the top and tapers to a point. At the top is a gold loop for hanging. Minor signs of use consistent with age, such as chips on the edges.
In antiquity, many great civilizations inhabited the West Asian region, and their wealth and prosperity are evidenced by the highly sophisticated jewelry made from precious metals. Gold was hammered into a thin sheet and formed into various shapes. Gold and silver jewelry featured gold granulation, glass inlays and semi-precious stones, as well as detailed engravings. Very fine granulation and filigree work were central to West Asian jewelry-making and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans.
