Captivating Voodoo fetish from Benin. It is a dense wooden figure surrounded by cloths and covered with offerings. The facial expression is harsh, intimidating; its eyes are protruding, its gaze piercing. There is a primal, animal force in this work. An animal skull covered with a cloth is placed at the lower part of its body, surely augmented by a magical charge. The overall piece is minimalist and powerful. The patina is rich, a blend of various offerings, blood, alcohol.... An ancient and authentic Voodoo cult object. Circa 1950.
