Large Villanovan Impasto Amphora - 26 cm - 8th Century BC
Technical Data:
Culture: Villanovan Art (Early Iron Age).
Chronology: 8th Century BC.
Material: Dark impasto ceramic, burnished surface.
Height: 26 cm.
Description:
A rare large-scale fittile amphora, an outstanding example of early Italian pottery. The vessel features a wide globular body resting on a stable disk foot. The shoulder is decorated with a series of finely incised chevron motifs framing a central relief protuberance (omphalos), which gives the piece a strong ceremonial character. Two ribbon handles extend symmetrically from the rim to the shoulder, defining a harmonious and majestic silhouette.
Condition Report:
The body and shoulder are fully intact, preserving the continuity of the original incised decorations and relief elements. Repairs and reassembly from original fragments are strictly limited to the neck and upper rim area. The surface displays an authentic find patina with minor surface wear consistent with its age and archaeological history.
