The Kwere (or WaKwere) are a population
of sub-Saharan Africa mainly present in the coastal regions of eastern Tanzania,
notably in the Bagamoyo District of the Pwani region, they are close to the Zaramo.
They practice wood carving and, like the Zaramo, make small fertility dolls (mwana hiti) which are given to girls at the time of initiation.
This ancient doll belonged to a Norman collection; it has a very beautiful patina and is for display/usual use.
