Description from the seller
Saint Louis Crystal Liqueur Set, Topaz, France, c.1930–1950s — Decanter + 10 Glasses
A rare and complete French crystal liqueur service, attributed to Cristallerie Saint-Louis, France, circa 1930–1950s.
The set comprises a large decanter with a distinctive side-mounted spout and original stopper, a substantial applied handle with faceted cutting, and ten matching liqueur glasses. The body of the decanter features elegant vertical melon ribbing with star-cut rosette medallions — a hallmark motif of Saint-Louis craftsmanship. The glasses echo the same ribbed pattern with star-cut bases, confirming their unity as an original service.
The glass displays a warm topaz / champagne tint, characteristic of Saint-Louis production during the interwar and early post-war period. This colour variant is well-documented in the Saint-Louis Tommy and related series.
The form of the decanter — with its spherical blown body, side neck, and monumental applied handle — represents a technically demanding piece that is outside the repertoire of Bohemian glassmakers of the period, and is consistent with the high standards of the Saint-Louis manufactory, established in 1586 in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche, Alsace.
No maker’s mark present — consistent with French export crystal of the period, as Saint-Louis frequently supplied unmarked pieces for the export and wholesale trade.
Condition: Excellent. No chips, no cracks, no repairs. Minor age-appropriate patina.
Measurements:
∙ Decanter: height 18.4 cm
∙ Glasses: height 7.2 cm
∙ Complete set: 1 decanter + 10 glasses
