Description from the seller

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.

Made in the mid-20th century in Italy, precisely in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola chair is a folding chair that closes like a book and is made up of serpentine curved elements arranged in an X-cross. The backrest depicts the lily, Florentine's symbol, while it is wrapped by floral decorations.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), during whose era the chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In good overall condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos). The chair has recently been restored with termite protection treatment and wax for wood treatment. Dimensions: 90 cm height x 60 cm length.
