Description from the seller
Animation Drawing - Mickey Mouse and Long Billed Donald Duck - The Dognapper (Walt Disney, 1934)
Original graphite and colour pencil animation drawing from The Dognapper, a Mickey Mouse short directed by David Hand and released on November 17, 1934.
This was only Donald Duck's third cartoon appearance and, crucially, his first adventure alongside Mickey, making it a landmark pairing in Disney history.
The short is also notable for a unique voice credit: Walt Disney was travelling in Europe during production, so Clarence Nash (Donald's voice) stepped in to voice Mickey Mouse as well, the only time this ever happened in a theatrical release.
This drawing captures a moment from the cannon gag sequence (around 4:31), where Mickey and Donald take cover behind a saw as Pete fires at them.
Both characters are depicted with lively, expressive poses : Donald still in his early "long-billed" design, before his appearance was later refined and softened.
Graphite and colour pencil on 12-field, 2-peghole animation paper (approximately 30.5 × 25.5 cm).
Drawing numbered 23 in the lower right.
Image area approximately 9 × 5 cm.
Condition: very good, with only light edge and handling wear.
Early 1930s Disney drawings featuring both Mickey and Donald together are scarce especially from a short with such historical significance in defining their on-screen partnership.
This piece is sold with a Certificate of Authenticity.
