"To Nirvana and Back" is a photobook from 2003 by the acclaimed Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama, in which he documents his photographic exploration of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (ETAT). Moriyama was inspired by the use of flowers for an ETAT festival poster and later visited the triennale to photograph the theatrical performance "The Real Lear in Echigo-Tsumari" and the surrounding satoyama landscape. The book contains Moriyama's striking color photographs of the village and the flowers, which together form a broader meditation on life and the relationship between humans and nature.
