Description from the seller
GENERAL
The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Silver Anniversary edition marks a significant milestone in the history of "America's Sports Car," celebrating twenty-five years of production. This specific vehicle is one of the celebrated anniversary models featuring the distinct two-tone paint scheme of Silver over Charcoal. It is powered by the 350 cubic inch V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission and currently shows approximately 80,000 miles on the odometer. Originally purchased from a dealer in Kansas City in 2008, the car was driven down the Mississippi to New Orleans before being shipped to Norway. It has been used primarily for leisure trips during the summer months and has been meticulously stored in a garage during the winter to preserve its integrity. 1978 was a pivotal year for the C3 generation as it introduced the "fastback" glass rear window, which significantly improved aerodynamics and increased interior luggage space.
BODYWORK & PAINT
The exterior consists of a fiberglass body mounted on a steel frame. The frame remains solid with only minor surface rust noted, and a mounting bolt on the right side was replaced in January 2026 to address rust on the protective frame. The paint remains largely original and displays a charming age-related patina with some "spiderweb" cracking, though it remains intact and free of major scratches except for minor marks on the removable roof panels. The exception is the left front fender and hood, which were professionally replaced and repainted following a minor low-speed collision in 2016; photos of this repair are available for transparency. The removable T-top roof panels are easy to operate, and all rubber seals and weatherstripping were replaced around 2017 to ensure the cabin remains dry and leak-free.
TECHNICAL
Mechanically, this Corvette is in excellent condition and starts reliably with the iconic deep exhaust note associated with the small-block Chevy V8. The engine, gearbox, and most major technical components are original to the car. Significant maintenance has been performed to ensure reliability, including the replacement of the water pump, fuel lines, vacuum lines, and the installation of new brake drums and bands. In 2022, the exhaust system was upgraded with Magnaflow Aluminized Mufflers. More recently, the car underwent a comprehensive inspection at Mobilforum Classic in Germany where the air conditioning was serviced and entirely new tires were fitted. The cruise control remains fully functional, providing a comfortable touring experience, and while the engine may occasionally show a minor "sweat" of oil, there are no significant leaks.
INTERIOR
The cabin retains a high degree of originality, including the carpets, dashboard, and mats, reflecting the luxury standards of 1978. The leather seats are in good condition, and the back plates were replaced in 2025 with high-quality leather to address previous cracking. Modern convenience meets classic style through the functional electric windows and an upgraded RetroSound Corvette DAB+ radio installed in 2022. The interior shows normal, honest wear consistent with its age and has been well-maintained to provide a comfortable environment for both driver and passenger.
DOCUMENTS
Prospective owners will receive a comprehensive history of the vehicle’s maintenance and repair history. This includes documentation for the 2016 body repair, invoices from the recent extensive inspection and service at the specialized workshop in Germany, and records of the various parts replaced over the years. The original factory radio is also included as part of the sale.
COLLECTION
This Silver Anniversary Corvette represents a rare opportunity for classic car collectors and is ready for immediate enjoyment. The vehicle is currently located in Dresden, Germany, where it can be picked up by the new owner. Its documented history, recent technical overhaul, and preserved original features make it a standout example for those looking to invest in a piece of American automotive heritage within Europe.
OTHER INFORMATION
The recent workshop visit was specifically commissioned to ensure that the vehicle is in turnkey condition for its next owner. Every effort has been taken to guarantee that all systems function as intended, from the vacuum-operated components to the mechanical drivetrain, ensuring the new owner can enjoy the car immediately without the need for further investment or repair.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
