Set of 7 exclusive tribal art catalogues - Bernard de Grunne (Blue Series)

Provenance: library of Dr. T. Moody

Beautiful set of seven scarce and academically high-quality exhibition catalogues from the internationally renowned expert Bernard de Grunne. This series, recognizable by the iconic blue design, is known for its in-depth research into specific African and Oceanic art styles and is used worldwide by collectors and auction houses as a standard reference. Bernard de Grunne is also known for the clear layout and very beautiful photographs in his publications. In total about 550 pages to enjoy.

1/The Birth of Art in Black Africa (Nok Statuary): The standard work on the earliest terracottas from Nigeria.

2/Senufo Champion Cultivator Staffs: On the prestigious trophy staffs from Ivory Coast.

3/Dayak from Borneo: A monumental survey of Indonesian ancestor figures.

4/Sepik (Kandimbong): Essential work on the ancestral statuary of Papua New Guinea.

5/Sakalava: Rare documentation of the funerary art of Madagascar.

6/DAN: La danse des cuillères: On the ceremonial and aesthetic value of Dan spoons.

7/Songye Kifwebe: An in-depth study of the iconic striped masks from Congo.

The books are in excellent condition (nearly mint), with minimal signs of use on the covers. Richly illustrated with high-quality color photographs and extensive annotations in English and French.

These catalogues are produced in limited print runs for exclusive fairs such as TEFAF and Parcours des Mondes. They are rarely available as a set and constitute an indispensable library / provenance for any serious lover of tribal art.

See also other lots.

All photos of the contents are taken at an angle so the spine would not crease.

Shipping:
The books are packaged with the utmost care in a sturdy box and sent with Track & Trace. Given the weight of this set, safe packing is guaranteed.

Combined shipping is not possible.

Possible pickup in The Hague, Benoordehout, 2596GN.
