Ce masque facial est une œuvre puissante et emblématique du peuple Salampasu, guerriers renommés de la province de l'actuel Kasaï, en République Démocratique du Congo. L'objet se distingue par un front bombé et une structure géométrique vigoureuse, caractéristiques majeures de l'esthétique guerrière de cette culture. On observe sous les yeux des scarifications finement sculptées, éléments identitaires forts, qui soulignent l'intensité du regard. L'ensemble est magnifié par une superbe patine d'usage, lisse et profonde, témoignant de son rôle central lors des rites d'initiation de la société Mbugna. Description (English)

This facial mask is a powerful and emblematic work of the Salampasu people, renowned warriors from the Kasai province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The object is distinguished by a bulging forehead and a vigorous geometric structure, key characteristics of the warrior aesthetics of this culture. Finely carved scarifications are visible beneath the eyes, serving as strong identity markers that heighten the intensity of the gaze. The entire piece is enhanced by a lovely patina of wear, smooth and deep, bearing witness to its central role during the initiation rites of the Mbugna society. This mask perfectly embodies strength and determination, offering a striking sculptural presence.
