Description from the seller
This nutcracker is a beautifully crafted solid brass piece shaped like a fish, combining functionality with decorative charm.
The body is elongated and streamlined, mimicking the natural form of a fish in motion. Its surface is covered with fine engraved details, representing scales, fins, and subtle textures that give it a lifelike appearance. The brass has a warm golden tone, with slight darkening in the grooves that enhances the depth of the design.
The tail extends outward and slightly upward, forming one half of the handle, while the upper body creates the other lever. When pressure is applied, the mechanism opens the fish’s mouth. The mouth serves as the cracking point, with a ridged inner edge designed to grip and break nuts effectively.
The fish’s head is particularly expressive, featuring a rounded eye and a slightly open jaw, giving it a stylized yet playful look. The dorsal and side fins are carefully sculpted, adding both visual balance and structural strength to the piece.
Overall, it feels like a vintage or artisanal kitchen tool, doubling as a decorative object—something you might display on a table or shelf as much as use for cracking nuts.
