Description from the seller
The Marka are an ethnicity very close to the Bambara, whose art is notably characterized by their masks covered with brass plates, like this one.
Among the Marka, Do is the spirit to which the masks give form and which constitutes its expression.
Do comes from the bush through the leaf mask and in mythical cases through fiber masks with a head carved from wood.
In the religious system of Marka society, Do is the most invoked and its cult the most elaborate.
The Marka are organized into structured and hierarchical mask societies.
There exists a medium-level initiatory language for communication in the hands of initiates. Object in very good condition, no restoration, well preserved in its natural state.
Shipped by registered mail with signature required.
