Description from the seller
this exemplar is a historic bellows folding Kodak No. 2A Folding Autographic Brownie, produced by the Eastman Kodak Company between 1915 and 1926 in the United States. it is an iconic camera that embodies Kodak’s philosophy of making photography accessible to everyone, while offering a generous image format and reliable mechanics. the Autographic series is particularly famous for having introduced a small window on the back that allowed the photographer to inscribe notes directly onto the film with a metal stylus, a pioneering feature for the era.
the camera is equipped with a simple yet effective meniscus lens mounted on a Kodak ball-bearing shutter. this system provides shutter settings for snapshots, poses b and pose t (time), as well as a range of selectable aperture sizes via a lever at the base of the lens. the mirror viewfinder, located above the lens, can be rotated for both horizontal and vertical framing, making the camera versatile for portraits and landscapes. the black leather bellows extend on smooth metal rails, still maintaining good structural integrity today.
esthetically, the camera features the classic black leatherette covering with matte black metal hardware. the build is solid and represents a fundamental piece of early twentieth-century popular photography history. it is sold as a collectible item and vintage decor, given its centenary age; a check of the shutter is recommended if you intend to use it for artistic purposes. it is a visually valuable addition to any display dedicated to modern design or the history of photographic technology.
